The Three Billy Goats Gruff

In K3 this week we have been reading and comparing traditional tales.
We acted out the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We made puppets and bridges and did a super job at giving the characters different voices.

Shapes

Over the last two weeks K3 have been learning about shapes.

We used floor shapes to make robots and dragons.

In DT and History we have been looking at different homes. We used 2D shapes to draw a house and a castle.

We then went on a 3D shape hunt around school. We found lots of cylinders in our classroom and lots of cuboids outside.

We looked at the nets for some 3D shapes and made a keep for our castles from a net for a cuboid.

We have been very busy in K3 over the last few weeks. At the start of the term we read stories set in Africa. We loved acting out the story of Handa's Surprise and Handa's Hen.

We read the story Little Rabbit Foo Foo and changed it to include animals from Africa. Please feel free to come and read our version in the class.

In art we made fruit using different materials and paint and wove our own baskets to put them in- just like Handa's!
We also looked at African materials and patterns and designed our own.

Moving Pictures

In D&T we have started a new topic called Moving Pictures. We have been talking about the parts of a picture that could move to add interest and make the picture more animated. Out first practical task involved using split pins to make a see-saw move up and down. Then we added our own decorations to make the background look like a park. The results were great!

Spooky Spider Descriptions!

For the last two weeks, we have been learning lots of new descriptive vocabulary. In particular, we have been using adjectives to describe the size, colour, texture and personality of a variety of monsters.
On Thursday, we painted giant hairy spiders and then thought of good adjectives to give them each a gruesome descriptive name!

Puppets!

K3 had a day of art activities today, all tied in to our Literacy lesson about clothes and making lists.

We learned the names of various items of clothing and then made a list of clothes that we would wear in either Summer or Winter. Later, we used paint and clothes-shaped sponges to make prints of clothes.

When the prints had dried, we cut them out and then stuck them onto people-shaped templates to make puppets.

Meanwhile, we took it in turns to paint a carboard box with a window cut out of the middle to make a puppet theatre.

The puppet theatre isn't finished yet, but we still had a great time trying it out with out with our puppets!

Knock Knock! Who's There?

For the last couple of weeks we've been looking at stories in familiar settings. One of the stories that we have read is Knock Knock Who's There? by Sally Grindley and Anthony Browne.

The children took part in role play related to the book and then invented a new character. They then wrote a page for their new character in the style of Knock Knock Who's There? We put all of the children's pages together to make our own K3 Knock Knock! Who's There? book and we'd love you to read it.
